How the Predictions Compared: The Full Breakdown

This is where the tournament caught almost everyone off guard.

World Cup Champion (10 points): Zero out of seven contestants predicted Spain as champion. The most popular pick was France, chosen by three contestants. Argentina was picked by two. England and Norway each got one pick. Nobody saw Spain’s defensive masterclass coming.

The Finalists (5 points each): Four contestants correctly identified Argentina as one of the two finalists. Three contestants correctly identified Spain as one of the finalists. No contestant correctly predicted both finalists.

Third Place: England (5 points) Only one contestant, Chidiebere Ogu, correctly predicted England as the third-place team.

Golden Boot: Kylian Mbappe (5 points). Five out of seven contestants predicted Mbappe as the Golden Boot winner. This was the most correctly predicted category in the entire contest, and the one that separated the field most clearly.

Player of the Tournament: Rodri (5 points) Zero out of seven contestants predicted Rodri as Player of the Tournament. Every contestant who answered this question predicted Messi, with one predicting Jude Bellingham. Rodri’s win was the biggest surprise of the awards.

Goals Scored by Champion in Final: 1 (5 points) Zero out of seven contestants predicted Spain would score exactly one goal. Every contestant predicted two or more goals for the champion. The 1-0 scoreline after extra time was not on anyone’s radar.

Goals Scored by Runner-up in Final: 0 (5 points) Two contestants, Adeyinka Adedoyin and Chidiebere Ogu, correctly predicted Argentina would score zero goals in the final. This proved to be a crucial differentiator at the top of the leaderboard.

Fairness and Transparency

All entries were accepted only through the official Google Form before the closing deadline of Friday, July 10, 2026 at 7:30 PM WAT. Once the portal closed, no new entries were accepted, and no existing entries were modified.

Every eligible submission was scored strictly according to the official contest rules published before the tournament began. Obvious spelling variations of player names such as Mbappe, Mbappé, Mbappem, and Kylian Mbappe were treated as referring to the same player. All other predictions were scored exactly as submitted.

The original submission records and full scoring audit have been retained and are available for verification if required.
